• United States Pacific Islands (+670, +671, +684)
  • This describes American Samoa (country code 684). Guam (country code 671), and the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands (country code 670).
  • There are proposals to move these territories into the North American Numbering Plan (NANP, i.e. country code/world zone 1). The NANP area codes 670, 671 and 684 have been reserved for this purpose, matching the existing country code assignments.
  • Bellcore officially announced that Guam (671) and Northern Marianas (670) would be incorporated into the NANP. These codes began service on 1 July 1997.   • No announcement has been made regarding American Samoa's (+684) inclusion in the NANP at this writing, although 684 is a reserved area code in the NANP in case that should happen. That territory uses 7-digit subscriber numbers and can thus be easily integrated into the NANP.
  • Territories that join the NANP would be expected to relinquish their respective country codes according to apparent NANP policy.
  • Subscriber numbers would also have to conform to the standard 7-digit format, within each area code, which is the case throughout the United States Pacific Possessions (i.e. American Samoa, Guam, and the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands) plus three United Nations Pacific Islands (Marshall Islands, Micronesia, and Palau).
