Phone Card Tips
  1. How to send a fax with a prepaid calling card?
  2. Pick up the handset or turn on the speaker, dial the 1-800 or the local phone number on your card, follow the voice instruction to enter the PIN number and fax number, and then press the Start key on your fax machine.

However, this may not work if your fax machine requires you to push # key for more than two seconds, since doing so terminates the call for some phone cards.

  3. How to use a prepaid calling card to dial an Internet Service Provider?
  4. For users of Windows and Dial-up Networking.

Step 1. Double click "Make New Connection" icon and create a dial-up connection, say, named "ISP with my calling card".

Step 2. Double click "ISP with my calling card". A "Connect To" window will open up. Enter user name and password. You may click the save password button for convenience.

If you'd like to create a dial-up connection for repeated use, you need to go through Steps 3 through 7. Otherwise, you can jump to Quick Start.

Step 3. Click the Dialing Properties button. A new window will pop up. Fill the small window with the number you need to dial in order to access an outside line for long distance. The number is usually 9 or 8. It should be listed in your hotel phone menu or available from the front desk.

Step 4. Click the button in front of Dial using Calling Card and then click the Change button. A window named "Change Calling Card" will appear. Click the New button. Fill your calling card name in the new window and click OK.

Step 5. In the Change Calling Card window, click on the Advanced button. In the new window "Dialing Rules", click on the button Copy From. In the "Copy Dialing Rules" window, select 'MCI via 1-800-674-0700" and click on the OK button. In the "Dialing Rule" window, a string of numbers and characters will appear in the input fields. In the input field underneath Long distance calls, change 8006740700 to the 800 or local number of your phone card. Then click the Close button.

Step 6. In the Change Calling Card window, enter your calling card number and/or PIN number. Click the OK button.

Step 7. In the Dialing Properties window, click the OK button.

Step 8. In the Connect To window, a long string of numbers and characters will appear in the Phone number field. It should look like

            1800xxxxxxx,,,,,,T YourPhoneCardNumber ,, YourISPnumber

Make sure that your ISP number includes the area code. Click on the button Connect and keep your finger crossed. If the voice prompt of your card comes on slowly, you may add a few more commas to increase the pulse between dialing.

Quick Start: A simpler way to dial your ISP with a calling card is to edit directly the phone number field according to the format described in Step 8 in the Connect To window without going through Steps through 7. Then click the Connect button. However, you need to type in the long string of numbers and characters every time if you choose this method.
